Firefighting teams are working to extinguish a blaze at the Tyumen Oil Refinery in western Russia after a fire erupted in one of its purification units, regional authorities said.


According to the regional government’s press service, the incident was caused by a technical malfunction within a processing unit at the facility, Caliber.Az reports. 


“Firefighting operations are ongoing at the Tyumen Oil Refinery. The fire broke out in one of the purification system units as a result of a technical malfunction. Fire crews are on the scene,” the statement said.


Authorities added that, due to the industrial nature of the site, the incident has been classified as high-risk.
