A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by Southwark Crown Court after admitting a series of antisemitic hate crimes, including threats to kill Jewish people and to bomb Jewish schools.
Tavius Jean-Charles made repeated threats against six victims between October 2025 and March 2026, with incidents taking place near synagogues in a north London area with a large Jewish community, Reuters reports, citing the police.
He was initially reported to detectives after being seen shouting, “I will kill you Jews”, on March 16. He was arrested a week later, but shortly after being released from custody, he was overheard speaking on the phone, saying: “It would be good if we blew up one of their schools”.
Jean-Charles pleaded guilty last month to seven racially aggravated public order offences and one count of racially aggravated criminal damage. He was sentenced on Friday.
Authorities said the case comes amid a broader rise in antisemitic incidents in London in recent months. These include the stabbing of two Jewish men as well as multiple arson attacks.
Prosecutors have pledged to respond more rapidly to such offences, promising faster charging decisions and more efficient evidence gathering in order to bring perpetrators to justice more quickly.
