Ukraine’s military intelligence agency says Russia has launched a coordinated large-scale air assault targeting critical infrastructure across the country, involving multiple waves of drones and missiles.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine said on May 13 that the attack began with a “significant number” of strike drones intended to overwhelm Ukrainian air defences and strike civilian infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the agency, Russia is expected to follow the initial wave with air-launched and sea-launched cruise missiles, as well as ballistic missile strikes. It said the operation appeared designed to be prolonged.

“The aggressor is deploying a significant number of strike drones to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defence system and target civilian facilities,” the statement said.

The intelligence agency added that Russia’s intended targets include critical infrastructure and “life-support facilities” in major cities, with particular focus on the energy sector, defence industry sites, and government buildings.

The agency also said the strikes come amid Moscow’s continued rejection of ceasefire proposals, describing the attacks as part of an effort to weaken Ukraine’s resilience in the ongoing war.
