U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly enjoys circulating internet memes about himself among friends and colleagues, including jokes that highlight his unusually wide range of government responsibilities, the New York Times reports, citing people who have seen him do so.

Rubio, who has held multiple roles within the administration, is said to show people memes that have gone viral online, particularly those referencing his overlapping positions in government.

According to a person who has seen him do so, he often brings up the memes in conversation and shares them directly from his phone during meetings or informal interactions.

The memes are plentiful, and they have imagined Mr. Rubio in various new roles, depending on the outcome of Mr. Trump’s decisions. He has been cast in the internet’s imagination as Kristi Noem, the former homeland security secretary; the president of Venezuela; and, because Mr. Trump has ordered the Pentagon to release its U.F.O. files, Elliott in the movie “E.T.”

The publication noted that Rubio, like U.S. Vice-President JD Vance, is currently working to strengthen political support ahead of future electoral cycles. Some commentators have suggested that their increasing visibility online reflects emerging competition within the Republican Party ahead of a potential presidential nomination race.
