Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared Giuseppe Finocchiaro, the director of a private Italian Lyceum in Istanbul, persona non grata, according to Türkiye Gazetesi.
The publication says that Türkiye's Ministry of National Education had earlier conducted its own investigation, following which Finocchiaro and his deputy, Nida Intiba, were suspended from their positions. As part of that decision, their authority to sign official documents was also revoked.
The newspaper writes that the investigation was connected to a conflict surrounding the dismissal of teachers at the educational institution.
Despite the fact that a 123-day strike ended after an agreement was reached in June, the subsequent dismissal of ten employees led to a broad public reaction.
Following these events, the director of the educational institution was declared an undesirable person in Türkiye.
