Russia and India have signed an exclusive military agreement, Inosmi reports, citing Al Jazeera.

The agreement reportedly concerns RELOS — a treaty granting both sides mutual access to military infrastructure, including bases, airfields, and ports.

“Formally, it is about logistics and support. In essence, it creates the possibility for a permanent military presence and rapid power projection in a strategically important region,” Inosmi writes.

The article claims that the entire Indian Ocean will now fall under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. It emphasises that this is one of the most significant defence agreements in recent years.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia and India had formally established a framework for the mutual presence of military contingents on each other’s territory. The text of the cooperation agreement between the two countries has been published on the official legal information portal.

Previously, Russia and India also conducted joint military exercises.
