Spain’s Defence Minister Margarita Robles has arrived in Kyiv to reaffirm Madrid’s commitment to supporting Ukraine across humanitarian, security, and defence sectors.

According to Spain’s Ministry of Defence, the visit includes a series of official meetings with Ukrainian counterparts aimed at reviewing bilateral cooperation and reinforcing support for just and lasting peace in line with international law, Caliber.Az reports.

During her trip, Robles is also expected to participate in a ceremony honouring fallen Ukrainian soldiers, paying tribute to their “resilience, professionalism, and dedication” in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The ministry stated that Robles began her visit by laying flowers at the Wall of Remembrance in Kyiv’s Mykhailivska Square, a site dedicated to Ukrainian soldiers who have been killed since the start of the conflict.

Robles also held talks with Major General Valerii Vavryniuk, discussing equipment deliveries, personnel training, and broader humanitarian assistance. She reiterated Spain’s continued support in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

“Drones play a key role in the war in Ukraine,” the ministry noted, adding that border forces had reportedly shot down around 4,000 unmanned aerial vehicles this year.

The minister reaffirmed Spain’s assistance in providing equipment, training, and humanitarian support.

During the visit, Robles is also set to be awarded the Order of Princess Olga, Third Class, in recognition of Spain’s support for Ukraine.
