On 20 April, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Julien de Fraipont, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Marianne de Jong, were separately summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Azerbaijani side delivered a strong protest against documents adopted on 16 April 2026 by the parliaments of Belgium and the Netherlands.
The Ministry stated that these documents attempt to undermine Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and also interfere with the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports via the ministry.
Officials stressed that the documents rely on false and unfounded assessments and reflect a persistent anti-Azerbaijani bias within those institutions. They also underlined that the claims included in the texts violate international law and amount to unacceptable interference in sovereign affairs.
In addition, the Azerbaijani side firmly rejected references to alleged violations involving Armenia’s territorial integrity, assertions about the rights of ethnic Armenians, and claims regarding the so-called unlawful detention of individuals of Armenian origin, describing them as baseless.
The Ministry also pointed out the inconsistency of adopting such documents shortly after the recent meeting between the Speakers of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Belgian and Dutch sides were urged to take effective steps to prevent anti-Azerbaijani groups within their parliaments from harming bilateral relations.
