The chief executive of Russian Railways (RZD), Oleg Belozerov, has said he was surprised by media reports suggesting that Armenia may seek to charge the company lease payments for the country's railway network.

He noted that all rights and obligations of the parties are clearly set out in the concession agreement governing RZD's operation of Armenia's railway network, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

"We intend to adhere strictly to the agreement, and if the Armenian side is considering terminating the contract or changing its terms, we are entitled to expect reimbursement of the investments we have made," the head of RZD added.
