A Lebanese official said the mandate of Beirut’s ambassador to Washington is currently limited to pursuing a ceasefire with Israel, as early-stage diplomatic efforts get underway, according to Al Jazeera.

The official described the meeting on April 14 as preliminary, characterising it as a “zero session” ahead of the formal launch of a broader negotiations track.

According to the source, more substantive issues will be addressed later, once full talks begin with the participation of three delegations.
