Israel’s Consul General in New York, Ofir Akunis, has called for US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
He made the remarks during an interview with Fox News, Mignews reported.
Akunis drew a parallel between Trump and Netanyahu’s efforts regarding Iran and the historic 1979 peace agreement between Israel and Egypt.
At the time, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat signed a treaty that ended the war between the two countries, for which they were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
“I don’t know whether President Trump is watching us right now, but I think that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deserve the Nobel Peace Prize just as Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat received it in 1979. I hope and believe that next year Trump and Netanyahu will be awarded this prize. They deserve it,” Akunis said.
