The United States has raised the travel advisory level for Cyprus and urged its citizens to reconsider their travel plans to the island.

According to a statement from the US Department of State, travellers are advised to “reconsider travel due to the threat of armed conflict and limited US embassy assistance.”

Non-essential US government personnel and their family members have also been authorised to leave Cyprus due to security risks.

Earlier, on March 2, Cyprus cancelled a meeting of EU affairs ministers following an Iranian drone strike on a British airbase on the island.
