BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. Turkmenistan and
the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) have
explored opportunities to expand energy cooperation, including
potential routes for transporting Turkmen natural gas to European
markets and the development of Caspian energy infrastructure on
October 23.

This is reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium,
following a meeting between Turkmen Ambassador to Belgium Sapar
Palvanov and François-Régis Mouton de Lostalot, managing director
of IOGP Europe. Enea Belardinelli, IOGP Europe’s representative for
European energy policy, also attended the meeting.

The discussions covered European Union energy security,
diversification of energy supplies, the role of natural gas in the
energy transition and prospects for strengthening ties between
Turkmenistan and Europe’s energy sector.

Palvanov highlighted Turkmenistan’s energy potential and its
efforts to diversify export routes, emphasizing the country’s
interest in developing long-term cooperation with European
partners. Particular attention was given to the potential
transportation of Turkmen natural gas to European markets and the
development of energy infrastructure in the Caspian region.

IOGP Europe representatives stressed the importance of
diversifying energy supplies to strengthen Europe’s energy security
and noted the continuing role of natural gas during the energy
transition.

In addition, the sides examined ways to reduce methane
emissions, introduce modern environmental technologies and exchange
expertise in sustainable energy development. They explored
opportunities for direct cooperation between IOGP Europe and
Turkmengaz, Turkmenistan’s state-owned gas company, as well as
engagement with international energy companies represented in the
association.

Moreover, the meeting addressed the possibility of organizing
joint expert consultations on energy connectivity between Central
Asia and Europe.

Palvanov informed the IOGP Europe representatives about the
ongoing International Conference and Exhibition Oil and Gas of
Turkmenistan – 2026 (OGT 2026) and invited them to participate in
future editions of the event and other industry gatherings.

The sides expressed interest in maintaining contact and
identifying practical areas for further cooperation.
