Syrian authorities on Saturday, September 19, announced the arrest of Walid al-Fallah, described as one of the leaders of a cell affiliated with the terrorist group ISIS (Daesh) and allegedly involved in the killing of three members of Syria’s internal security forces.
The arrest was carried out by internal security forces in the southern province of Daraa, the SANA news agency reported.
The cell was allegedly involved in the killing of security personnel in the city of Al-Sanamayn.
Three security personnel were killed on Thursday during an operation to arrest a wanted suspect after an armed group attacked their patrol and engaged them in a gunfight.
Syrian internal security forces later said the armed group, which had taken shelter in Al-Sanamayn, was linked to ISIS. After members of the group refused to surrender, security forces raided their positions.
On Friday, the security forces announced that they had identified the cell responsible for the attack and seized weapons, ammunition and bomb-making equipment from the homes of two individuals identified as the cell’s leaders.
