Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry, world-renowned Turkish scientist, physician and academician Aziz Sancar has sent a letter of gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for being awarded the “Shohrat” Order (Order of Glory).
In his letter, Sancar described the honour bestowed on him by Aliyev as one of the greatest sources of pride and joy in his life, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
He expressed his deep gratitude to the head of state for the high honour.
Sancar stressed that his love for Azerbaijan had always been based on sincere feelings and had never been accompanied by any expectation of receiving something in return. He said Azerbaijan had always held a special place in his heart as a homeland as dear to him as Türkiye.
The scientist noted that he would wear the “Shohrat” Order with great pride, seeing it not only as recognition of his scientific achievements, but also as a symbol of the brotherhood founded on the principle of “One nation, two states”.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has awarded Aziz Sancar on September 7, 2026, for his special services in strengthening Azerbaijan’s international scientific and humanitarian cooperation.
Sancar, who has made significant contributions to global science, is a distinguished scientist whose work has contributed to strengthening the enduring brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye and solidarity between the two countries’ diasporas.
