Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Muslim Council of Elders Secretary-General Mohamed Abdelsalam discussed Islamic solidarity, interfaith relations and Azerbaijan’s role in promoting cooperation among Muslim countries during a meeting in Baku on September 14.
The two sides recalled their previous meetings and noted the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Muslim Council of Elders, Caliber.Az reports via state media.
They highlighted Azerbaijan’s role on the global stage in strengthening Islamic solidarity, including the 7th Meeting of Muslim Religious Leaders of the Organisation of Turkic States, held in Baku. The importance of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OTS) summit, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan next year, was also emphasised.
The sides also noted that interfaith relations in Azerbaijan are maintained at a high level.
During the meeting, Aliyev’s receipt earlier this year of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity was recalled. Abdelsalam presented the certificate for the award to the Azerbaijani president.
