Austria’s visa refusal has angered Iran, prompting the Foreign Ministry to summon Austria’s chargé d’affaires in the Islamic Republic and lodge a strong protest over Vienna’s refusal to issue a visa to Iranian Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran Mohammad Eslami, who was due to attend the 70th session of the IAEA General Conference.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the fact that Vienna denied the visa under pressure from Washington does not relieve Austria of responsibility for its actions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“They should have issued a visa to the Iranian delegation in accordance with all international laws. We immediately took action and summoned Austria’s chargé d’affaires to lodge a protest,” he noted at a weekly press conference.
