Iran has warned vessels using the Strait of Hormuz that they could face fines, detention or confiscation for violating its rules on passage.

Iran’s Maritime Traffic Control Authority in the Strait of Hormuz announced the measures, according to IRIB.

Shipowners operating routes to and from the Persian Gulf have been advised to check a list of vessels that have violated the rules before using the strait.

The authority also said vessels cooperating with those already on the list could themselves be added.

Operators seeking to be removed from the list must submit an official request explaining the reasons for the violation of Iranian rules.
