Long queues have formed at the Armenia–Georgia border as increased traffic and seasonal travel strain the capacity of key border crossings.
Hundreds of travellers waited overnight to pass through passport control at the Bagratashen and Sadakhlo border checkpoints, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The congestion has been attributed to a rise in the number of tourists and cross-border traffic, as well as the limited capacity of the checkpoints and insufficient coordination between the border services of Armenia and Georgia.
The issue was discussed on July 31 during a meeting between Garik Muradyan, commander of the Armenian National Security Service's Border Troops, and Levan Maisuradze, director of the Patrol Police Department at Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and improving the efficiency of border operations in an effort to ease congestion and facilitate the movement of travellers.
