Part of the brickwork of a dilapidated apartment building collapsed in Russia's city of Saratov on July 31, prompting a partial evacuation, with no casualties reported, local authorities said.
Saratov Mayor Igor Molchanov said the collapse occurred at a residential building located at 3 Krymskaya Street in the city's Zavodskoy District, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"Part of the brickwork in a dilapidated block of flats has collapsed. The damage is in the unoccupied stairwells No. 5 and No. 6," Molchanov said.
Emergency and rescue services were deployed to the scene, while law enforcement authorities said that the building had been partially evacuated. Preliminary information indicated that no one was injured.
The mayor said he had instructed Deputy Mayor Maxim Sidenko and Zavodskoy District head Vyacheslav Doronin to oversee the response, adding that the situation is being closely monitored by local authorities and municipal services.
Regional prosecutors have launched an investigation into the incident. Zavodskoy District Prosecutor Artem Murzakov travelled to the site, while the Saratov regional prosecutor's office released video footage showing the collapse, which appeared to extend from the fifth floor down to the ground floor.
