The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Canada's Gran Tierra Energy will conduct 2D seismic exploration in the Quba-Caspian oil and gas region to further define its geological structure.

The work will be carried out under the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) covering the exploration, development, and production of hydrocarbons in the onshore prospective area of the Quba-Caspian region, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

As part of the project's initial preparation phase, a coordination meeting was held at the Quba District Executive Authority to review the next steps for implementation.

SOCAR and Gran Tierra Energy signed the PSA in February 2026. Under the agreement, Gran Tierra Energy will serve as the project operator with a 65% participating interest.

The exploration program includes gravity data acquisition, 3D seismic surveys, and the drilling of exploration wells to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the contract area.
