Chinese airlines will reduce fuel surcharges on domestic routes starting July 5, according to announcements from carriers including Air China.
Under the revised structure, passengers will pay a fuel surcharge of 50 yuan (about $7.35) per flight segment on routes of up to 800 km, and 100 yuan (about $14.70) on longer routes, Chinese media reports.
Infants will continue to be exempt from the surcharge. Children, as well as disabled servicemen and police officers, will receive a 50% discount.
Compared with current levels, the adjustments represent a reduction of 30 yuan (about $4.40) for shorter routes and 50 yuan (about $7.35) for longer flights.
The changes apply to tickets sold from July 5 and are expected to lower overall travel costs for domestic passengers in China.
