Morgues in Paris have become overwhelmed as a sharp rise in deaths linked to an extreme heatwave across Europe puts increasing pressure on funeral services.
The situation was confirmed by Fabien Huguet, director of the funeral service Family Obsèques, in an interview with BFMTV.
“Funeral homes are overwhelmed, and we can no longer find space for our deceased. The situation is becoming very difficult,” Huguet was quoted as saying.
The report notes that crematoriums in the French capital have also been affected, with waiting times stretching to several days due to the increased demand.
