The United States and India are in the final stages of negotiating a bilateral trade agreement, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said in remarks to journalists in Hyderabad during celebrations marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence

The diplomat noted that a meeting was held in New Delhi between US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.

“One of my first goals getting here was finalising a trade deal, and we're very close to getting that finalised,” Gor said, while adding that he did not provide a specific timeline for completion of the talks.

Negotiations between New Delhi and Washington on a comprehensive trade agreement have been ongoing since February 2025. The proposed deal aims to raise bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.
