The 13th Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians was held on the sidelines of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

Member of Milli Majlis Nigar Mammadova said that hosting the conference in Baku reflects a strong commitment to shared values, mutual respect, and inter-parliamentary cooperation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

She noted that the Parliamentary Union serves as an important platform for strengthening solidarity among member states, expanding the exchange of experience, and promoting a unified approach to issues of concern to the Islamic world.

“Muslim women parliamentarians play an important role in the development of our societies, shaping legislative initiatives, strengthening social welfare, promoting peace, and achieving sustainable development goals. Today’s discussions are important in terms of expanding women’s participation in conflict resolution, protecting Muslim women and children affected by conflicts, and further strengthening cooperation between our parliaments,” Mammadova said.

According to Deputy Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States Ali Asghar Muhammadi Sijani, women are actively engaged in all political and social processes, contributing significantly to societal development. He said that women, recognized for their professionalism and dedication across various fields, carry out their responsibilities with distinction.

“In Azerbaijan, there are many examples of the high regard given to women. Unfortunately, such examples are not found at the same level in many other countries. Women parliamentarians in Azerbaijan have always fulfilled their honorable duties with distinction. In Islam as well, special importance is attached to the dignity of women and their status in society,” he said.

He added that joint activity and solidarity within the OIC demonstrate once again that women’s participation in all spheres should be given special attention and that their opportunities should be further expanded. In this context, Azerbaijan’s experience and gender policy can be considered a model for other countries.

The conference also discussed the role of women in parliamentary diplomacy, their participation in conflict resolution, the protection of women and children’s rights, and humanitarian issues in territories affected by occupation and armed conflicts.
