Kazakhstan and Dutch company Damen Shipyards Group have agreed to establish shipbuilding yards in the western regions of Kazakhstan, signing a memorandum of cooperation.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration said that, in addition to shipbuilding, the parties also discussed the use of the Port of Rotterdam to expand Kazakhstan’s export opportunities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

They further considered joint projects in agrotechnology and greenhouse farming.

The total value of the agreements amounts to €160 million.

Cooperation with Damen Shipyards is not new for Kazakhstan.

Previously, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas acquired two oil tankers built at the group’s shipyards.

These vessels are used on the Aktau–Baku route as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
