Turkish security forces have detained 70 people suspected of links to the banned terrorist organization ISIS in a series of counterterrorism operations carried out across 21 provinces, the Ministry of Interior announced.
According to the ministry, the operations were conducted by provincial gendarmerie commands under the coordination of the Counterterrorism Department of the Gendarmerie General Command and local Chief Public Prosecutors’ Offices, Caliber.Az reports.
In a statement, the ministry said investigators determined that the suspects were involved in various activities connected to ISIS.
“During the operations, it was established that the detained suspects were members of the ISIS terrorist organization, provided financial support to the group through individuals linked to the organization and so-called charitable foundations, and engaged in ISIS propaganda through their social media accounts,” the statement said.
Authorities said criminal investigations have been launched against the detainees.
The Interior Ministry emphasized that Turkish security forces remain committed to combating both the operational activities and financial networks of the terrorist group.
“Together with our security forces, we continue operations with determination against the activities and financial structures of the ISIS terrorist organization,” the ministry stated.
