The next summit between the United Kingdom and the European Union may be postponed due to prolonged negotiations on deepening bilateral relations and the weakening political standing of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Bloomberg reports.
British and European officials stated that the meeting in Brussels was initially planned for June, but it may now be pushed back to July or a later date.
According to some interlocutors, the parties may not be able to reach meaningful agreements in time for the summit, while others pointed to doubts over the Starmer government’s ability to make the necessary compromises.
Sources also said there is uncertainty in Brussels about the stability of the British government, which is complicating the negotiation process.
The UK Cabinet Office made it clear that the summit will take place this summer, with the final date to be announced later.
