An overnight drone attack targeting Russia’s Yaroslavl region was repelled by air defence and electronic warfare systems, Governor Mikhail Evraev said on May 22, adding that no casualties were reported.

“Last night, an attack by Ukrainian UAVs was repelled on approach to Yaroslavl by air defence and electronic warfare forces. There were no casualties,” Evraev said.

According to the governor, emergency measures introduced during the incident have since been lifted. Traffic restrictions at a key intersection in Yaroslavl—where Moskovsky Avenue meets the South-Western ring road—have been removed, and vehicle movement on the route leading from the city toward Moscow has resumed.

Authorities warned residents that debris from downed drones could still be present across the region and may be critical to the ongoing investigation. “Fragments of unmanned aerial vehicles that are important for the investigation may be located in the region. If they are found, do not approach them and do not use phones near them. Move to a safe distance and immediately report their location by calling 112,” Evraev said.

The governor also highlighted the response of Russian defence and security forces, noting that operations continued uninterrupted despite public celebrations in the region. “I would like to note that despite the entire region celebrating Lokomotiv’s victory, units of the Ministry of Defence and security agencies worked in a coordinated and effective manner. I thank them for their cooperation in repelling the attack and ensuring the region’s safety,” he said.

Evraev cautioned that the situation remains potentially dangerous, urging residents to remain vigilant. “Important! The threat remains. Wait for the ‘Drone danger’ alert to be lifted,” he added.
