Russia is planning to install more than 2,000 biometric self-service terminals, known as “Portal Rodina” crypto-biometric cabins, in domestic public service centres and selected foreign locations, according to a statement by Rostec.
The systems, developed by the Analytical Centre company in cooperation with the certifying centre “Osnovanie”, RT-Project Technologies and the Seldon Group, are designed to automate the collection of biometric data for identity and passport services, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The terminals are intended to carry out facial photography, fingerprint scanning, voice sample recording and ultraviolet document verification, with data transmitted through secure channels to Russia’s Unified Biometric System and relevant government agencies.
Officials say the technology could reduce processing times for biometric international passports by more than half, from around two months to approximately 10 working days, while also easing administrative workloads in multifunctional service centres.
Beyond Russia, the equipment is expected to be introduced at “Osnovanie” certification centre facilities in Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, with further expansion to additional countries envisaged at a later stage.
