Mexico and Azerbaijan have strong potential to exchange experience in urban services and social programs, Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan María Victoria Romero Caballero told journalists.

According to the ambassador, Mexico’s participation in events held in Azerbaijan as part of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) is particularly significant, especially as preparations continue for the next edition of the forum, which will be hosted in Mexico City, Caliber.Az reports, per local media.

Caballero praised Azerbaijan’s organization of international events, noting that WUF13 has maintained a high standard. She also expressed pride in Mexico’s participation and its national pavilion, which showcases urban development programmes alongside elements of the country’s ancient cultural heritage.

Responding to a question on key approaches to urban policy, the ambassador emphasized the importance of inclusive social programmes and housing policy.

She noted that housing provision should be viewed as an integral part of inclusive social systems, alongside support for vulnerable groups, including older people, children and women.

“This concerns housing provision as an integral part of inclusive programmes, as well as care for society and attention to older people, children and women. This is also very important for Mexico, and the country will take Baku’s experience and further develop it,” she said.

Caballero also highlighted opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in urban service delivery.

She pointed to Mexico City’s “Utopías” centres, where women, children and older people have access to a wide range of social programmes and services, adding that the model could be useful for future urban projects.

The ambassador further noted that Azerbaijan’s ASAN and DOST service systems represent successful examples of public service delivery, adding that potential cooperation between these institutions could serve as a strong model for experience-sharing.
