Russia has resumed military deliveries to Syria for the first time since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, according to reports.

The Novosti agency said a Russian cargo ship, Sparta, arrived at the port of Tartus under escort from military vessels, including the frigate Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov. The ship is believed to have been carrying military equipment or dual-use goods.

“The convoy adopted strict security measures. After passing Gibraltar, all vessels stopped transmitting data about their location. At least two ships transmitted false data indicating they were in the Baltic Sea. Researchers believe that these deliveries may be linked to negotiations over the future of Russian military bases in the country,” the agency reports.
