Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remains open to negotiations with the United States if Washington demonstrates genuine commitment to diplomacy, while stressing that Iran does not trust the US following past negotiations.

“We are interested in negotiation only if the other side is serious,” Araghchi said. “We have no trust on Americans.”

The Iranian foreign minister added that Tehran is seeking to preserve the current ceasefire in order to create space for diplomatic efforts, Iran International reports.

“We are trying to keep the ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance.”

Araghchi made the remarks following the BRICS foreign ministers’ summit, where he also accused Washington of sending mixed signals that have complicated diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
