International confidence in Azerbaijan as a venue for major global gatherings reflects its reputation as a safe platform for international dialogue, a senior lawmaker has said.

Sadig Gurbanov, chair of the parliamentary committee on natural resources, energy and ecology in the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, said the country is increasingly being trusted to host high-level international events, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Speaking at an international conference on “Human Capital Formation for Sustainable Urban Development” in Baku, Gurbanov said the world is facing mounting global challenges, including environmental degradation, water scarcity and broader human-driven risks, arguing that urban development now plays a critical role in shaping long-term sustainability.

“Cities of the future must not only meet present needs, but also ensure a safe and environmentally clean living environment for future generations,” he said, calling for stronger models of sustainable urban planning.

He added that amid what he described as a shifting global order, Azerbaijan’s international standing is gaining recognition, with its positions on various issues increasingly acknowledged abroad.

“The world recognises and accepts Azerbaijan’s fair stance on many issues. That is why countries trust Azerbaijan to host major international conferences as a safe country,” he said.
