Around 1,500 vessels are currently waiting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, as traffic builds up near the critical maritime corridor.
Iran International reported that the ships are gathered on the approaches to the strait, awaiting authorisation to proceed through the waterway.
According to the report, any vessel seeking to transit the area must first obtain clearance from the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
