The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops intercepted a drone carrying weapons after it entered Israeli territory late on May 5.

According to a military statement, surveillance units detected the drone crossing into the country from the west in what was described as an attempted smuggling operation, Caliber.Az reports.

Soldiers subsequently brought down the drone and recovered four M-16-type rifles it was transporting.

The weapons were handed over to Israeli security authorities for further investigation, the military said.
