A majority of Germans are dissatisfied with the performance of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government.


According to a survey conducted by the Insa institute for Bild am Sonntag, 76% of respondents rated the cabinet’s work negatively.


Only 16% of those surveyed said they were satisfied with the government’s performance.


In addition, 58% of respondents do not believe the CDU/CSU–SPD coalition will last until the end of its term in 2029. Just 24% expressed confidence that it will, while 18% were undecided.


The poll was conducted on April 29–30, 2026, and included more than 1,000 participants.
