Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained four Polish nationals suspected of involvement in an organised criminal group accused of producing counterfeit euro banknotes, a government spokesperson said on X.

“In a specially prepared production facility, they uncovered, among other things, 3 tons of specialised paper, holographic foil, magnetic strips, and watermarks that would have allowed the creation of counterfeits worth 360 million EURO,” Jacek Dobrzyński said.

The suspects, aged between 44 and 71, were arrested in a coordinated operation led by ABW’s Małopolska regional department, with support from the Border Guard and Military Gendarmerie.

Officials said part of the counterfeit currency was allegedly intended for distribution in Ukraine.

The investigation is ongoing.
