US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, April 26, that Iran’s oil infrastructure could face catastrophic failure within days, arguing that mechanical problems are being intensified by the US blockade on Iranian vessels.
Speaking to Fox News’ “The Sunday Briefing,” Trump described a scenario in which oil transport systems could break down if exports remain blocked.
“When you have, you know, lines of vast amounts of oil pouring through your system, if for any reason that line is closed because you can’t continue to put it into containers or ships, which has happened to them — they have no ships because of the blockade — what happens is that line explodes from within, both mechanically and in the earth,” Trump said.
“It’s something that happens where it just explodes. And they say they only have about three days left before that happens. And when it explodes, you can never, regardless, you can never rebuild it the way it was,” he added.
Trump also addressed the broader context of US-Iran negotiations, emphasising what he described as Washington’s dominant position.
“We have all the cards. We're not going to spend 15 hours in aeroplanes all the time, going back and forth, to be given a document that was not good enough. And so we'll deal by telephone, and they can call us any time they want,” Trump said on Saturday, speaking to reporters and in a post on Truth Social.
He further claimed that Iran has been significantly weakened.
“Again, we have all of the cards, they have no military left, practically, they have no leaders left. We don't know who the leaders are. Nobody knows who the leaders — I don't think they know who the leaders are, very importantly,” he added.
