Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam on preparations for the upcoming Islamabad peace talks during a meeting held in the capital.

A statement from the ministry said both sides underlined the importance of a sustainable diplomatic solution aimed at easing regional tensions, The Associated Press (AP) reports.

Earlier in the day, Naqvi also updated US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker at the US Embassy on the arrangements for the talks.

He recently took part in a delegation led by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir that visited Tehran last week to advance the peace process. The Iranian ambassador welcomed Pakistan’s constructive role in efforts to de-escalate tensions.
