Latvia’s experience creates new opportunities for expanding forest areas in Azerbaijan, the country’s Agriculture Minister Armands Krauze said as he addressed the 9th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission in Shusha.
According to Krauze, Latvia’s forest cover has increased from 26% to 53% over the past 100 years, and this experience could be applied in Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“In Azerbaijan, forest cover currently stands at approximately 12%. With the application of appropriate approaches, this figure could be significantly increased, for example, to 23%. Forest restoration methods based on the Scandinavian approach provide cheaper, more efficient, and faster results, and there are broad opportunities for cooperation in this area,” he said.
