TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 1. Uzbekistan and
China discussed expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector,
with a focus on aquaculture, Trend reports via Uzbekistan’s Ministry of
Agriculture.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Minister
of Agriculture Akmal Kosimov and representatives of China’s Dalian
Ocean University.

The sides focused on developing cooperation in the fisheries
sector, including the introduction of joint educational programs,
improvement of specialist training systems, and the expansion of
scientific and practical exchange.

Particular attention was given to the application of innovative
approaches to fish farming in arid regions, as well as the
organization of professional training courses and capacity-building
initiatives.

According to the ministry, the proposed initiatives are expected
to support the development of aquaculture, improve the efficient
use of water resources, and create new economic opportunities.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop concrete
proposals and ensure the phased implementation of joint
projects.

Since shifting from broad pond farming to intensive methods,
Uzbekistan's aquaculture sector is growing rapidly. The private,
pond-based sector farms cyprinids (carp) and is growing into
high-value cold-water species, including trout, salmon, and
sturgeon, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization. The
government-supported sector seeks modernization through new
projects, better veterinary services, and better fish
hatcheries.
