Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation to discuss ways to reduce tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to a statement from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry posted on X.
During the call, the two officials stressed the need to enhance security and stability in the region. Qatar reaffirmed its strong support for initiatives aimed at peaceful conflict resolution and at strengthening both regional and global stability, Caliber.Az reports.
The diplomatic exchange comes amid a sharp escalation along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.
Heavy fighting erupted on February 26, with Afghan officials reporting significant Pakistani military losses following retaliatory operations in several eastern provinces. According to statements from Kabul, Afghan forces destroyed at least 15 Pakistani border posts, killing 55 Pakistani soldiers, seizing hundreds of weapons and capturing several troops. Afghan authorities also claimed to have taken control of two headquarters and 19 military checkpoints.
Afghanistan reported eight soldiers killed and 11 wounded on its side. It also said a Pakistani airstrike on a temporary camp for repatriates in Torkham injured 13 civilians, including women and children.
