A mud volcano erupted in northwestern Colombia’s Antioquia province on February 25, sending a towering column of smoke into the sky.
According to Antioquia’s Administrative Department of Risk Management (DAGRAN), the Municipal Disaster Risk Management Council of San Juan de Urabá reported the eruption of a mud diapir — also known as a mud volcano — near the town’s aqueduct treatment plant on Februarry 25 afternoon.
“Preliminary reports indicate that, although there are homes near the emergency site, no injuries to people have been reported. To date, the only reported impact is on the road to the Siete Vueltas sub-municipality,” DAGRAN said in a statement.
Authorities added that nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
