Latvia has announced it will provide €10 million for the purchase of American-made weapons for Ukraine under NATO’s PURL initiative, the country’s Prime Minister Evika Siliņa confirmed on the social media platform X.
At a government meeting on February 17, the decision was formally approved. According to Siliņa, the allocation, which represents 0.25% of Latvia’s GDP, will be directed to the PURL program to acquire US-produced military equipment in support of Ukraine.
“At the government meeting, it was decided to allocate €10 million to support Ukraine. These funds will go to the PURL program for purchasing American-made weapons,” Siliņa stated.
Highlighting NATO’s ongoing support, Secretary General Mark Rutte noted that Ukraine has received millions of euros in assistance through the PURL mechanism. Since last summer, NATO has provided 75% of all missiles used on the frontlines and 90% of air defense systems, underscoring the alliance’s critical role in sustaining Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
