A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Kamchatka in Russia early on January 22.


The seismic event occurred at 00:42 local time, with its epicentre located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 143 kilometres south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The earthquake’s focus was at a depth of 59 kilometres beneath the seabed, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media


While the earthquake’s epicentre was offshore, residents of Petropavlovsk reported feeling tremors, with shaking measured at a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale.
