US President Donald Trump has expressed cautious support for the creation of a demilitarised free economic zone in Donbas, suggesting it “could work” as a mechanism to resolve the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.

According to Caliber.Az, Trump made the comments while responding to questions from journalists at the White House.

The United States‑backed 28‑point peace framework to end Russia’s war in Ukraine has been reduced after negotiations between U.S., Ukrainian and European officials. Senior Ukrainian sources say the original draft has been trimmed to about 20 points in its latest iteration.

The revised peace plan focuses more on economic elements, security guarantees and post‑war reconstruction, and removes or modifies provisions Kyiv found unacceptable. Ukraine has formally submitted its 20‑point framework to Washington as part of ongoing talks.
