ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October
21. Türkiye views the supply of Turkmen natural
gas via the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline, with subsequent transport
to Europe across Turkish territory, as a strategic objective of its
energy cooperation with Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Board and
General Manager of the Turkish state-owned oil and gas company
BOTAŞ, Abdulvahit Fidan, said at the “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan –
2026” (OGT 2026) international conference and exhibition in
Ashgabat today, Trend's special
correspondent reports from the event.
"Delivering Turkmen gas to Türkiye via the Trans-Caspian Gas
Pipeline, with subsequent supply to Europe, remains a strategic
goal," Fidan remarked.
According to him, Türkiye’s well-developed gas infrastructure
and BOTAŞ’s access to various markets create opportunities to
achieve this objective. At the same time, Fidan noted that in order
to move from potential opportunities to concrete projects,
producers, transport companies, and buyers must find mutually
acceptable solutions regarding technical and commercial issues.
"BOTAŞ is ready to support this work. We’ll contribute our
expertise in natural gas supply, transportation, and trading to our
collaboration with our Turkmen partners and all other relevant
stakeholders," the company’s head mentioned.
Fidan recalled that the commencement of Turkmen gas supplies to
Türkiye in 2025 marked an important milestone in bilateral energy
cooperation.
"We view this as the beginning of a much broader partnership.
Our next goal is to build upon this success and establish
long-term, sustainable relationships in the sphere of gas
supplies," he pointed out.
The head of BOTAŞ also emphasized that the close ties between
Türkiye and Turkmenistan provide a solid foundation for further
engagement in the energy sector. According to him, during the ninth
meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic
Cooperation, held in Ashgabat in June 2026, both sides reaffirmed
their commitment to strengthening cooperation in this field.
Fidan added that developing gas infrastructure, expanding supply
capabilities, and fostering long-term partnerships are vital to
Türkiye’s energy security. Specifically, the country is currently
developing its capacity for the receipt and regasification of
liquefied natural gas (LNG), while also expanding its underground
gas storage facilities.
"I hope that our cooperation will open up new markets for
Turkmen natural gas, first in Türkiye, and subsequently in Europe
via Türkiye," he concluded.
