Japan continues to maintain a presence in Russian oil and gas projects and considers energy cooperation with Moscow important, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in an interview with TASS.
According to Zakharova, Tokyo continues to emphasise the importance of its energy ties with Russia, particularly supplies of Russian natural gas, which she said contribute to Japan’s energy security.
She also noted that Japanese companies remain involved in oil and gas projects in Russia despite Japan’s close alliance with the United States.
Japanese investors continue to hold stakes in the Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 oil and gas projects, Zakharova said.
