Up to 2,700 delegates from more than 140 countries registered to attend events held during the Fourth Climate Week of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the parallel Baku Climate Action Week, according to a statement by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry noted that Azerbaijan hosted the Fourth Climate Week and the parallel Baku Climate Action Week at the Baku Convention Center from September 7 to 11. A total of 68 events were held as part of the week, Caliber.Az reports per the ministry.
Alongside delegations from various countries, the program brought together representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, the private sector and academia.
During UNFCCC Climate Week, eight mandated sessions were held on various areas of the international climate agenda arising from decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties (COP), along with events organized by the COP30 and COP31 presidencies and a number of sessions under the UNFCCC Implementation Forum.
As part of Baku Climate Action Week, Azerbaijan organized a total of 37 events in line with the Action Agenda of Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency, as well as on other pressing issues.
In addition, consultations were held within the mandate of the “Belém Mission 1.5” Troika on the implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), in accordance with a relevant mandate adopted at COP30, with the participation of Azerbaijan, Brazil, Türkiye and Australia, representing the COP29, COP30 and COP31 presidencies, respectively.
The host country for UNFCCC Climate Weeks is determined on the basis of a rotation principle among the UN regional groups.
The first of the two UNFCCC Climate Weeks held in 2026 took place in April in the Republic of Korea, representing the Asia-Pacific region, while the second was held in Azerbaijan, representing the Eastern European region.
